We like to welcome you to Sundsvall on 19 \u2013 23 September 2022 for the Plenoptima Training School on \u201cMachine Learning for Plenoptics\u201d and Workshop 3 “Research Communication”. Sundsvall is a very popular town for large scale meetings beeing right in middle of Sweden with good  communications. The city is placed between two mountains next to the ocean and offers a unique environment with the majestic stone town and the deep forest just around the corner. About Mid Sweden University<\/h2>\n

Mid Sweden University has two campuses, Sundsvall and \u00d6stersund, with approximately 13 500 students. The main educational focus at Campus Sundsvall lies within the natural sciences, technology, and media, as well journalist education, teacher training and health education. This is also the home of the STC Research Centre<\/a> (Sensible Things That Communicate) and the Realistic 3D research group, host of this Plenoptima Training School.<\/p>\n

Campus Sundsvall is situated a short walk from the city centre. It has lovely scenery, with leafy groups of trees and a beautiful promenade along the river. \u201c\u00c5kroken\u201d \u2013 the heart of campus \u2013 is built in the 1990s as a city within the city, with alleys and squares, bridges and landing-stages. The striking stone houses reflect the old stone city of Sundsvall and its harbour storehouses, and thereby it preserves a piece of history.<\/p>\n

Mid Sweden University<\/a> has modern lectures halls and rooms for exercises. The PLenoptima Training School will have all premises in the same building. Lunch restaurant is a 5 min walk away.

About Sundsvall<\/h2>\n

Sundsvall is a middle-sized northern town in Sweden, 400 km North of Stockholm. It has nearly 100 000 inhabitants in the central parts of the municipality. The placement of Sundsvall is an old settlement of Vikings, at which king Gustav IV Adolf founded the town Sundsvall in 1621. The town is surrounded by forests and rivers, which has made forestry the most important industry, but also metal and chemical industries are important. The proximity to the Baltic Sea made Sundsvall into an important place for trade.<\/p>\n

In 1888, the whole town burnt down. In the following six years, 600 new houses were built. The sole approved material was stone, which has given the centre a unique appearance. Mid Sweden University is situated at the place of the 1621 town centre. Sundsvall can be reach by flight and by train.<\/p>\n

St. Olav Trail<\/h3>\n

St. Olav trail is one of the world\u2019s most northern pilgrim routes where people wandered in the 1000 year. The trail is about 580 km long, a pilgrim with much history and beautiful nature. It stretches from the church ruins in Sel\u00e5nger, Sundsvall by Medelpad and J\u00e4mtland to Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, Norway. The High Coast<\/h3>\n

During the past 20 000 years, natural forces have shaped a dramatic landscape with the highest coastline in the world. In the High Coast you will find great walks, exceptional views and thrilling activities, as well as calm waters and fishing areas. Read more<\/a><\/p>\n

Thai Pavilion<\/h3>\n

Located in the municipality of Ragunda in the North Sweden, 10 000 kilometers from its home country, the only Thai pavillion in the world outside Thailand rises to the sky. It is the most powerful sight in the valley, and it carries the royal spire. The history of the building began in 1897 when King Chulalongkorn of Siam (present Thailand) visited Sweden. The pavillion was opened in 1999it became a symbol of a meeting between two cultures, an open door with a free flow of thoughts and ideas. Read more<\/a><\/p>\n
