Tell me something about yourself?
I’m Ali Hassan from Islamabad, Pakistan. I have completed my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science from COMSATS University, Islamabad, Pakistan. In my bachelor’s program, I completed a final year project in computer vision and graphics. In contrast, in the master’s program, I carried out research activities using image processing and deep learning.
After graduation, I worked as Research Assistant at COMSATS University for two years. I have contributed to four international journal publications in Image Processing, Deep Learning, and Video and Light-Field compression.
Why did you apply to the PLENOPTIMA project?
Due to my interest in research and development, I was looking for an opportunity to attend international training offered by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie network. My favourite subject and previous research interest align with the project description of the ESR13 position, which is why I chose this position (ESR13). The PLENOPTIMA project seemed to provide a great platform to learn about new technologies while exploring the European countries by attending training schools, seminars, and international conferences.
What kind of expectations do you have for your research project and the upcoming network training?
I will be compressing deep learning architecture for light field rendering on mobile devices. To achieve my research objective, it is expected that I will attend events arranged by the PLENOPTIMA network to gain knowledge. Moreover, the secondments will give an ample opportunity to gain expert knowledge from the experienced research community. I will rely upon the PLENOPTIMA network and will hope to utilise the network’s expertise to solve the research problem.
Ali works as Early Stage Researcher at Mid Sweden University (MIUN), Sweden, and his research topic is “Dimension Reduction of Deep Network Models for Mobile Computational Plenoptics“.
