Tell me something about yourself?
I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but I left there early due to my father’s work. Therefore, I have lived most of my life in Brazil’s capital, Brasília, where I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering at Universidade de Brasília. Later on, I pursued my Master of Science degree at Signal Processing also at Universidade de Brasília, where I researched the compression of plenoptic point clouds concerning the Media Expert’s Group standards. Before joining the PLENOPTIMA project, I worked as a software developer for a few months in a cybersecurity and threat intelligence company.
Why did you apply to the PLENOPTIMA project?
The main reason I applied to the PLENOPTIMA project was due to the opportunity to work with the latest technology and state-of-the-art methods in a field that I have great interest in, which is plenoptic imaging. In particular, the representation of the plenoptic function over point clouds. In addition to that, joining a cross-sectorial, international doctoral degree program was also compelling to me. This is due to the unique opportunity to develop my communication and networking abilities and to undertake personal development activities in addition to working on my research-related skills.
What kind of expectations do you have for your research project and the upcoming network training?
In regards to my research project, I expect the usage of concepts from the fields of computer vision, signal processing, and computer graphics to develop new methods for plenoptic point cloud sensing with real scenes. Moreover, design scene analyses from full light field data to extract information that would possibly enrich them. For the network training, I hope to benefit as much as I can from the opportunity of attending events with leading experts of the inter-disciplinary field that is plenoptic imaging, in order to improve as a researcher.
What hobbies do you have?
My hobbies include watching and practicing sports, such as football and basketball. It also includes watching movies as well as learning about other cultures.
What is your favourite film, book or game and why?
I would say my favorite film is probably Interstellar, due to the presence of multiple characteristics which, in my opinion, a great movie should have. That is, the story, the soundtrack, special effects, and a (for the most part) coherent usage of scientific concepts were all remarkable for me.
Davi works at the French Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automation (Inria), France, and his research topic is “Sensing and Reconstruction of Plenoptic Point Clouds”.
